eLearning access for trust staff

This portal supports staff of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with local eLearning and the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) system.

To access the trust's eLearning, choose between Local Instructions and National Instructions. Local instructions cover trust-specific ESR guidance, including videos and written documents for accessing ESR, booking courses, creating a username and password, completing eLearning, and Maternity Face2Face training. The National route opens the broader eLearning platforms used across the trust.

For any queries about your eLearning account, the eLearning Helpdesk is available during working hours. ESR queries relating to role requirements can also be raised with the named ESR support contact for advice, particularly if your job role does not appear on the matrix or you are unsure which training applies to your post.

Mandatory Training Matrix

The Training Matrix helps you identify the mandatory training requirements for your job role. Select your role from the dropdown list to see what applies. Where training is identified as "Role Specific", discuss requirements with your Line Manager. If your role is not listed or you are unsure which row applies, contact julie.connell1@nhsglos.com with your full name, job title, and enquiry details for advice.

Respiratory eLearning

The Respiratory eLearning package provides direct access to the course launch and a downloadable Storyline 3 file that can be adapted for organisational use.

External platforms

The trust uses two external platforms for eLearning delivery and ESR sign-in:

Staff eLearning portals typically act as a central gateway where colleagues can find both locally produced training and links to national programmes. For a hospital trust, this usually means pulling together induction resources, mandatory training modules, and role-specific pathways in one place, so that busy clinical and non-clinical staff do not have to hunt across multiple systems when they need to complete or refresh a course.

Alongside the catalogue of courses, most portals include instruction documents and short guides that explain how to log in, enrol, launch a module, and record completion. These step-by-step aids are particularly valuable for new starters and for staff returning after a long absence, because they reduce the time spent troubleshooting basic access problems and let learners focus on the content itself rather than the technology.

Integration with a national Electronic Staff Record system is a common feature, giving employees a single sign-on route into their learning history and compliance record. When the portal is linked in this way, training status can be tracked automatically against role requirements, helping managers see at a glance which team members are up to date and where gaps remain, while learners receive reminders and personal learning lists tailored to their position.

Trusts also tend to publish a mandatory training matrix that maps required modules to job roles, refresher intervals, and completion evidence. A clear matrix removes ambiguity about what each staff group must complete, supports consistent practice across departments, and aligns local expectations with wider NHS requirements so that training can be evidenced during audits and inspections without unnecessary duplication.

When questions arise, a well-designed portal routes users to a helpdesk function where common issues such as password resets, locked accounts, or missing certificates can be resolved quickly. Good supporting material combines written instructions with short video demonstrations, so that visual learners and those who prefer reading can both find an answer, and so that the same information reaches staff consistently regardless of shift pattern or location.
